What is the main energy source in Moldova?

Natural gas accounts for more than half of Moldova’s total primary energy supply (53% in 2018), oil roughly a quarter (23% in 2018) and solid biomass one-fifth (19% in 2018). Most natural gas is used for electricity and heat generation, 3 whereas oil is the most important energy source for final consumers.

Why did Moldova stop supplying electricity in 2022?

In November 2022 the power station ceased supplying Moldova with electricity after Russia reduced gas supplies. Recommenced in early 2023, by May 2023 Moldova announced it would no longer be buying electricity from the Cuciurgan power station once a high-voltage power line from Romania is installed, scheduled for 2025.
