How does a mobile station communicate with a base station?

The communications between mobile station and base station occur concurrently via two air interface channels from each base station separately. Both channels (signals) are received at the mobile station by maximal combining Rake processing (see Figure 11.20 ). Soft handoff occurs in about 20–40% of calls. Figure 11.20. Soft handoff in CDMA.

How do I connect two base stations?

Mount your base stations in their chosen position. Use the supplied mounting kit if necessary or you can place them on a solid surface. Plug in each base station into power. If you are using the wired sync cable (for increased reliability) to connect the two, then one base station should be channel A and the other should be channel B.

Can I use two DECT base stations on the same line?

You should not have any problem with both DECT base stations on the same line although in rare cases they may interfere with each other. I have a set here which work 99% of the time but very occasionally will lose sync with the base station if both sets are on at the same time. Other handsets I've mixed and matched without issues in the past.

Do I need to connect my base stations to each other?

In general, you don't need to connect your base stations to each other with the sync cable. However, if you have a hanging object from the ceiling that is above the play area or if your base stations need to be positioned low such that your head or hands block the bases from seeing one another, this may affect the syncing of the base stations.

Can a second base station be in a different location?

Yes, your second (and third!) base station can be in any location and does not have to be within range of the first. Across town, in another state, etc. Totally acceptable. Just keep in mind when activating the second base station, the device you use to do that will need to be on the same network as that base station.
